CLUB NEWS JUNE 2025

GOOLWA & VICTOR HARBOR / PORT ELLIOT LIONS CLUBS CELEBRATED

“THE NEED FOR FEED” DURING THE JUNE LONG WEEKEND FROM  8TH-9TH 2025.

The Local Lions Roar the community to action to support local farmers.

The Lions Clubs of Goolwa and the Lions Club of Victor Harbor/Port Elliot held a fundraising dinner on Sunday the 8th June at the Encounter Bay Football club to coincide and support the Need for Feed Hay run for farmers on the Fleurieu area.

Monetary donations from Lions Clubs, Community clubs, businesses and individuals contributed to the amount of $35,400, the cheque was presented at the dinner to Need for Feed founder Graham Cockerel. An extra $5,000 adding to the total given on the night by Yankalilla Lions Club. The Auction and Raffle contributed to the amazing total. Future monetary donations can be made via the Need for Feed website NeedforFeed.org

Over the weekend the lions Need for Feed project arranged a Hay run with a team of drivers and ten trucks delivering the hay to primary producers on the Fleurieu. The State Government SA Drought Assistance Scheme which helps with transport costs, supports the hay runs.

Two Hundred tonnes of hay on the trucks, has been distributed to sixteen sites on the Fleurieu. Need for Feed will be contacting farmers that registered on the NeedforFeed.org portal on how to collect the hay. More than 100 farmers have registered, and additional hay runs may be required.

The Lions Club of Victor Harbor & Port Elliot also set up and cooked breakfast for the drivers early Monday morning before the truck drivers’ rollout on their deliveries. A special thanks from Lions to all the volunteers from the Lions Clubs, Encounter Bay Football Club and Need for Feed volunteers.

“This is a heartwarming story of when the local community comes together to support its’ members and ensure future viability.”
